I’d have gotten 20-year ban if I failed drugs test like Sinner – Serena Williams

    Published on

According to tennis great Serena Williams, if she had failed a drug test like world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, she would have been banned for 20 years.

Next month, Sinner will make his comeback from a three-month suspension at the Italian Open.

In March 2024, he had two positive clostebol tests.

After his physiotherapist used an over-the-counter spray containing the anabolic steroid to treat a cut on his own finger, Sinner told doping officials that clostebol entered his system through a massage.

WADA disputed the Tennis Integrity Agency’s decision to not ban him at first, and in February, they came to a contentious settlement with Sinner.

Serena described Sinner as having a “fantastic personality” in an interview. I adore the man and his style of play. He excels at the sport.

I don’t want to bring anyone down because I’ve been pushed down so much. He is essential to men’s tennis.

I would have received 20 years if I had done that. Let’s be truthful. Grand Slams would have been denied to me.
