Ahead of the February 21, 2026 FCT area councils elections, the chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has dumped the party that brought him to office, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the ruling-All Progressives Congress (APC).

Maikalangu, who disclosed this in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Kingsley Madaki, regretted that AMAC residents have been losing opportunities in terms of federal jobs/appointments because he was not a member of the ruling-APC.

The AMAC chairman noted that the goodies from the federal level, as well as various federal interventions to AMAC could not reach residents because of party differences and politics.

He added that even in the places where the administration needed ecological funding in dilapidated areas in AMAC communities the administration dii not get immediate attention because of party affiliation.

According to him, “It was important we took a position and the position we took is for the good of our democracy and to ensure that the good people of AMAC move forward.

“I have seen the fact that we are losing our opportunities in terms of Federal jobs/appointments, the goodies from the Federal level and as well as Federal interventions could not reach us because of party differences and its like that in politics.

“In the places where we need Ecological funding in dilapidated areas in our communities that is beyond us, we may not get immediate attention because of party affiliation.

“Let’s keep emotions aside, the more they continue to pilfer these jobs/opportunities, the more we will continue to lose our wealth to grow and move forward.”

Maikalangu expressed confidence that the APC would provide a better platform for him to achieve his goals and improve the lives of AMAC citizens.

Observers believe that joining the APC could be a strategic move for Maikalangu to advance his political career and achieve his goals.

“It’s worth noting that an APC chieftain, Hon. Gabriel Bravo Oluohu, has urged Maikalangu to join the APC for the betterment of AMAC.

“However, with the direct statement from Maikalangu, the exact reasons for his decision remain for the overall good of his people,” the statement added.
