The Kebbi State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property within the state.
This assurance was contained in a Press statement issued in Birnin Kebbi today by the Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, following the successful rescue of Augustine Madubiya, a 400-level student of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi, who was abducted by unknown assailants on Tuesday.
Alhaji Ahmed emphasized that the swift action and the rescue, within 48 hours of the abduction by the security forces, operating in collaboration with local vigilante groups and in response to the direct orders of Governor Nasir Idris, underscores the government’s resolve to eliminate criminal acts and provide a secure environment for all residents. “The prompt recovery of Augustine is a testament to Governor Nasir Idris’s commitment to fight against crime. The Governor has made it clear that he will not, under any circumstances, allow criminals the space to operate freely,” he stated.
Highlighting the Governor’s strong stance against violent crimes, particularly ransom abductions and other violent crimes, the Commissioner noted that since taking office two years ago, Governor Idris has recognized that security is paramount to sustainable development. “No efforts in developmental projects can yield meaningful outcomes in the absence of a secure environment. Governor Idris is therefore focused on security as a top priority, ensuring that all citizens can thrive without fear,” he said.
He explained that the unparalleled achievements recorded by the APC government in less than two years, will continue to be a significant feature of his efforts, adding that this will only be meaningful and be enjoyed in an atmosphere of tranquility and harmony.
The Commissioner reflected on the challenging security landscape faced by the state upon Governor Idris’s assumption of office. He pointed to a period of heightened insecurity in southern Kebbi, which had driven many farmers from their lands due to relentless attacks on villages and even security personnel. As a result, food shortages became a significant concern.
However, in less than a year, the state government, in collaboration with key security stakeholders, initiated a comprehensive strategy to restore peace. This proactive approach has resulted in a resurgence of safety and stability in affected areas, as highlighted by both the Emir of Zuru, Major General Mohammed Sani Sami, and Emir of Yauri, Dr. Mohammed Zayyanu Abdullahi, who, in recent press interviews attested to the return of farmers to their lands and reported a significant improvement in local safety conditions. “The bumper harvest witnessed last year is a fitting testament to the effectiveness of our peace restoration measures,” Ahmed added.
Concerning the ongoing threats posed by the Lakurawa bandits, the Commissioner assured citizens that the state government is leaving no stone unturned to resolve these security challenges. “Governor Nasir Idris is tirelessly working to implement strategies to mitigate the threats arising from these criminal elements,” he remarked.
Alhaji Ahmed urged communities in affected areas to collaborate with security agencies and provide essential intelligence to further expedite the process of restoring peace. He emphasized that collective efforts are crucial in overcoming the current challenges. “We must work together with our security forces to ensure the safety and well-being of our communities. Together, we can decisively tackle these threats,” he concluded.
He said that as the Kebbi State Government aggressively pursues initiatives to reinforce security, the emphasis remains on fostering partnerships between citizens and law enforcement to create a safer environment for everyone.
