Despite Prince William gradually taking on more royal responsibilities, King Charles III has no plans to abdicate the throne in favor of his son.
The British monarch, who is currently undergoing treatment for an unspecified type of cancer, continues to lead while delegating some duties to William to lighten his workload.
Royal expert Hilary Fordwich told Fox News that Prince William is stepping up in support of the King, but emphasized that any talk of an abdication is unfounded. She noted that the last time a royal stepped down, it led to a national crisis — a scenario the royal family is keen to avoid.
“Prince William is certainly taking on more roles, and both he and Princess Catherine are being prepared for their eventual future as king and queen,” Fordwich said. “But they are not seeking to take over any time soon.”
She added that the royal family remains united in prioritizing the monarchy’s stability and continuity, opting for a gradual transition rather than a sudden change. An abdication, she stressed, would break from longstanding royal tradition.
