Ifeanyi Ibezi, a former member of the House of Representatives and a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has vowed to back Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra State and a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Ibezi, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented the Idemili North and South federal constituency, clarified that the APC’s hesitancy to win the upcoming governorship race was the reason behind his choice.
His choice came after Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu defeated other party candidates who were thought to be more qualified.
Ibezi said that he had shifted his support to the current governor during a meeting at his rural residence in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area. He insisted that Governor Chukwuma Soludo be re-elected for a second term because his party was not prepared to nominate a worthy candidate.
Ibezi declared during the meeting that Soludo needed to run for a second term. I visited his projects and saw that he was doing well. What are you going to do if your party is struggling? Isn’t it to support a better party instead?
“Our support will move immediately to Soludo,” he declared.
Citing anomalies and one candidate’s violent inclinations, three APC candidates for governor resigned from the contest in Saturday’s primary election.
While Paul Chukwuma cited the presence of unprogressive forces as his reason for leaving the party, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, one of the candidates, withdrew, stating that he could not endanger the lives of his supporters in his quest of the party’s ticket.
