Gunmen kidnap passengers, kill driver, take over fully loaded bus in Otukpo, Benue

On Thursday night, a tragedy occurred in Ikobi, Otukpo Local Government Area, Benue State, when gunmen took control of a fully loaded Benue Links bus, murdering the driver and capturing every passenger.

But a toddler was left behind by the gunmen.

According to sources, the attackers ambushed the bus along the highway, shot the driver dead, and then dragged the occupants into the wilderness. However, it has been alleged that the kidnappers spared a young boy.

Security agencies have been notified and are reportedly monitoring the victims’ whereabouts, even though officials have not yet released an official statement regarding the incident.

Mike Magaji, the president of the Ochetoha K’Idoma youth wing, responded to the most recent attack by criticizing the state government’s lack of action about the murders.

He claimed that the governor’s visit to Otukpo on Thursday was devoid of any significant remarks.

“It is tragic that our people still live in fear while the government says nothing,” he remarked. How many more people have to die before something is done?

It was a letdown when the governor visited Otukpo. Our citizens didn’t expect ambiguous guarantees; they expected leadership. To stop these attacks, we need a well-defined plan.

“The government needs to take responsibility for its duties. While those in positions of authority turn a blind eye, we cannot keep mourning our people every day.

Catherine Anene, the public relations officer for the Benue Police, stated that she had not yet verified the occurrence at the time this story was filed.
