Bridge gap with NASS members, Labour Party forms  three-person truce committee

The Labour Party (LP) leadership established a three-member Intervention and Truce Committee to improve relations with its National Assembly members.

In a statement released Tuesday in Abuja, Mr. Obiora Ifoh, the party’s national publicity secretary, said the action was a part of continuous efforts to create lasting unity inside the party.

He claims that Mathew Nworgu and Chinedu Obika are members of the committee, which is led by Ben Etanabene.

According to him, the committee was officially launched on Monday at the LP National Headquarters in Abuja by Mr. Julius Abure, the party’s national chairman.

In order to find and address any disagreements between the LP and the party, Abure asked the committee to communicate with the lawmakers in both houses of the national legislature.

“We have given you the crucial task of uniting all of our members in the Senate and House of Representatives for the national assembly.

“This is to close the gaps and address any problems that may have existed.”

It is necessary for all of our members—roughly forty of you—to agree with the party leadership.

“At the national assembly, you serve as our ambassadors, and we are proud of some of you and the values you have demonstrated.

“However, we believe that some gaps still need to be filled, which is why this assignment is so urgent,” Abure stated.

According to him, the party anticipated that the committee would complete its work and submit a report to the party’s leadership in two weeks.

“We can guarantee that the party will exert every effort to guarantee that a lasting truce is reached within the party, especially with a significant stakeholder like the NASS caucus,” he said.

Etanabene responded by promising that the committee will take the task seriously and that they would do so.
