Nigerian police detain gangs of criminals from Pakistan who are allegedly experts in kidnapping

Two Pakistanis who allegedly specialized in kidnapping people for ransom have been taken into custody by Nigeria Police officers assigned to the Lagos State Command.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), revealed the regrettable occurrence on Thursday.

According to the PPRO, the suspects were taken into custody following a distress call regarding the abduction of a 48-year-old Pakistani national in the state’s Ikeja region on Wednesday at the command’s Ikeja Division.

He said that the Division’s anti-crime patrol was quickly sent to the area after receiving the distress call, saving the 48-year-old victim and apprehending the two perpetrators.

Five additional Pakistanis connected to the kidnapping eluded capture, according to the PPRO, which named the suspects as Roman Gull and Aftab Ahmad, ages 19 and 28, respectively.

According to preliminary findings, the victim was enticed from his base in Kano to Lagos State by the two suspects and five other people under the guise of offering him a position as a chef.

“On February 28, 2025, the suspects booked the victim’s flight to Lagos and lodged him in a hotel,” the police spokesperson stated.

The victim was visited by the seven suspects the following day, who then overpowered him, bound his hands and legs, and sent a message to his boss in Kano threatening to kill him unless he paid the N50 million ransom for his release.

“The boss alerted the police after paying N1 million three days later to buy time.”
