Alexander Darchiev has been named Russia’s ambassador to the United States of America by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Kremlin revealed this in a statement posted on its official website on Thursday.
The statement said, “Designate Alexander Nikitovich Darchiev as the Permanent Observer of the Russian Federation to the Organization of American States in Washington and the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the United States of America.”
Since 1992, Darchiev has been in the diplomatic service.
In the past, he held a variety of jobs at the Russian diplomatic post in Washington.
Before taking over as director of the North Atlantic Department, Darchiev was also Russia’s ambassador to Canada from 2014 until 2021.
