NiMet will release its seasonal climate prediction for 2025 on February 4

“The Role of Early Warnings towards a Climate Resilient Aviation Industry for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development” is the theme for 2025.

In the first quarter of every year, NiMet forecasts and releases the anticipated yearly pattern of Nigeria’s climate variables, including temperature and rainfall.

This is in line with its mission to provide the public and government with advice on all facets of weather, climate, and water-related issues.

“The Seasonal Climate Prediction highlights vital weather and climate information that may affect socio-economic activities in the agriculture, aviation, disaster risk management, health, oil and gas, telecommunication, tourism, transportation (water and land), power (hydro and renewable), and water resources management sectors throughout the year,” said Professor Charles Anosike, Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet.

“The publication also presents the socioeconomic implications of the expected rainfall and temperature patterns for certain sectors of the economy,” Anosike continued.

The SCP document contains forecast information on the 2025 rainy season’s start and end dates, cropping season duration, total rainfall anticipated across the nation’s 774 local government areas, January–May temperatures, and vigilance forecasts for meningitis and malaria.

The public presentation draws attendees from the public and business sectors, development partners, non-governmental organizations, the diplomatic community, farmers’ associations, and others. The Seasonal Climate Prediction document is a national document.

Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, will present the publication along with the State of the Climate in Nigeria, translations into the three (3) main Nigerian languages, and a summary for policymakers.
