Bwala: Northern region is not opposing tax reform

    Published on

The governors are the only ones opposed to the Tax Reform Bills, according to Daniel Bwala, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication.

In order to refute the idea that the northern region opposes the bills, Bwala made this statement.

President Bola Tinubu sent the Tax Reform Bill to the National Assembly, but it was rejected at an early stage of the bills by a joint meeting of the Northern Governors Forum and the Northern Traditional Rulers Council.

A tax reform bill was sent by Tinubu to the Senate and House of Representatives for approval on October 3, 2024.

The bill includes reforms for the industry, such as renaming the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) as the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS).

“The tax reform legislation is here to stay and will be passed. On Channels Television, Bwala said, “Let’s forget that it is the North vs. the South; it is the governors who are going to be impacted.”

If the derivation is used, the income of state governors will decline. These governors are not limited to the North; they are present in the majority of states.

The northern governors may have decided to voice their opinions on the matter.

However, remember that even in the case of local government autonomy, the governors still had the final say because it was first thought that the initiative would diminish their authority.
