CUPP Alleges Plot to Arrest Lawmaker Ugochinyere, Plans Nationwide Protests

    Published on

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and certain security agencies of orchestrating a plan to arrest Hon. Ugochinyere Michael Ikeagwuonu, a vocal opposition lawmaker representing Ideato Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

    ### Allegations and Claims
In a statement released by CUPP Secretary-General Peter Ameh, the coalition described the alleged plot as a “grave threat to democracy.” The group claimed that Wike’s allies, in collaboration with security agencies, have been training false witnesses in Abuja for over six weeks to defame Ugochinyere with fabricated evidence.

“This is a desperate, low-budget Nollywood production whose purpose has already failed,” CUPP declared, emphasizing Ugochinyere’s unyielding commitment to speaking truth to power despite alleged intimidation tactics.

    ### Resistance Plans
The coalition announced plans for nationwide protests to resist what it labeled a “clandestine scheme to defame, tarnish, and stifle” the opposition leader’s voice.

    ### Background Tensions
Ugochinyere, known for his criticism of Wike, has frequently spoken out against the minister’s role in the ongoing internal crisis within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). CUPP reiterated its stance that intimidation and blackmail would not deter the lawmaker’s activism.

This development adds another layer of tension to Nigeria’s political climate, with CUPP framing the alleged scheme as an attack on democratic principles and opposition voices
