After four-month blackout, electricity is restored to Bayelsa

The states of Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Imo, and Rivers are all included in the Port Harcourt Region.

Emmanuel Anyaegbulem, the general manager of TCN’s Port Harcourt Region, acknowledged this news during a press conference on Monday in Rivers State’s capital, Port Harcourt. He also talked about the company’s 2024 achievements.

He blamed criminal activity, notably the July 29 vandalism of about 20 transmission towers along the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132 Kilovolt (KV) electrical lines, for the prolonged blackout.

The only transmission line that provides Bayelsa state with energy is the 132KV line.

“Given that the blackout lasted from July 29 until November 30, when we restored the lines, the repairs of the collapsed towers presented a significant challenge for us,” Anyaegbulem said.

Approximately N13 million was spent on building a single transmission tower, the general manager stressed.

He also revealed that in 2024, police officers working for the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) arrested about 10 people who were seen damaging the company’s property in the area.

Four of the ten people in detention have already been found guilty by the courts, he said, and the other six are still being held by the police.

In order to provide customers with a consistent power supply, he reiterated the company’s commitment to provide electricity to Distribution Companies (DisCos).
