The Senate on Wednesday officially declared the Edo Central Senatorial District seat vacant, following the election and inauguration of Monday Okpebholo as the Governor of Edo State in November.

The Senate also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to organize a bye-election to fill the vacant position.

Okpebholo, who previously served as the senator for Edo Central, vacated his legislative role upon assuming the gubernatorial office.
