Kogi Government Shuts Zango Market, Bans Roadside Parking Over Security Concerns

    Published on

The Kogi State government has ordered the closure of Zango market and imposed a ban on roadside parking of trucks in the area due to rising security concerns. This decision follows intelligence reports indicating that criminal elements have been using the market as a hideout and collaborating with truck drivers who park along the roadside. These activities have heightened security threats, particularly for the nearby Confluence University of Science and Technology in Osara and the surrounding community.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Kogi State Information Commissioner Kingsley Fanwo explained that the closure and parking ban were aimed at preventing potential security crises. The government has granted a one-week grace period, beginning Wednesday, for market operators and truck drivers to comply with the directives. After this period, enforcement will be fully implemented.

Governor Alhaji Usman Ododo has tasked the Secretary to the Government of Kogi State to officially communicate this order to all relevant parties, including law enforcement agencies, to ensure compliance. The State Security Adviser will oversee security operations in the affected areas during and after the grace period.

The government reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and pledged to continue taking proactive measures to eliminate criminal activities and promote law and order. Authorities also thanked citizens for their vigilance and participation in community-driven security efforts.
