    Oluyede to be confirmed as Chief of Army Staff by Reps

    Lieutenant General Olufemui Oluyede’s name has been referred to the House of Representatives by President Bola TinubuTinubu for approval as the Chief of Army Staff.

    During Tuesday’s plenary, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen read a letter to the House that included this request. As you may remember, President Tinubu named Mr. Oluyede as the Acting Chief of Staff after Taoreed Lagbaja became unwell and eventually died. According to the President, the letter complies with Section 218 of the Constitution of 1999.

    Subsection (1) of this provision grants the President the authority to designate the Chief of Defense Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Naval Staff, the Chief of Air Staff and leaders of any other arms of the Federation’s military as may be created by a National Assembly Act,” according to section 218.
