    Benue Governor Alia Approves ₦75,000 Minimum Wage for State Workers

    Benue State Governor Hycienth Alia has approved a *₦75,000 minimum wage* for state workers, effective *November 2024*. This announcement was made on Monday at the State Secretariat following a meeting with representatives from organized labour.

    ### Wage Increase and Arrears Settlement

    Governor Alia also confirmed that the state government would pay *three months of the five-month backlog of arrears*, which had been promised to the union as part of the 2024 budget.

    “We have decided to set the wage at ₦75,000, exceeding the national minimum wage of ₦70,000 due to concerns raised by organized labour,” said Governor Alia, acknowledging the importance of addressing workers’ concerns during the negotiations.

    ### Commitment to Workers’ Welfare

    The governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of state workers, citing the government’s efforts to address issues like transportation allowances, tax relief, and other benefits. His motivation to clear the arrears is aimed at alleviating financial hardships faced by the workforce.

    Governor Alia reaffirmed that his government remains dedicated to ensuring workers in Benue State are properly cared for.
