Benue government moves to enact electricity law

    Published on

The government of Benue State has announced that it will pass an enabling electricity law to control the state’s energy industry.

In an interview with reporters in Makurdi on Tuesday, Mr. Omale Omale, the Commissioner for Transport, Renewable Energy, and Power, revealed this.

According to him, the Ministry of Justice is currently reviewing a draft of the bill before presenting it to the state executive council.

As soon as the executive council gave its approval, Omale said, the bill will be forwarded to the House of Assembly as an executive bill.

“The law will address the energy needs in the state’s underserved and unserved communities.”

“The unserved group is represented by certain communities that lack electricity infrastructure networks, while other communities have the infrastructure but do not receive regular electricity.”

“We are working on it as a ministry because we are aware of the energy needs of all Benue people,” he stated.

He claimed that states would be able to participate in the energy market and produce, distribute, and control electricity within their borders thanks to the new Electricity Act.
