Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has credited divine intervention for averting what he described as a potential economic catastrophe in Nigeria.
Speaking during the Special Holy Ghost Congress in Abuja, Pastor Adeboye asserted that, without prayers, the naira could have plummeted to ₦10,000 against the US dollar.
### “God Stepped In”
The cleric explained that through his prayers and those of his followers, the freefall of the naira was halted. “If we had not prayed, $1 would have been ₦10,000 by now. God stepped in and saved Nigeria,” he stated.
Currently, the exchange rate stands at approximately ₦1,730 to $1.
### Reflections on Nigeria’s Challenges
Adeboye reflected on the economic struggles faced before President Bola Tinubu’s administration, particularly Nigeria’s reliance on fuel imports despite significant investments in domestic refineries.
“How can we be importing petrol when we have this resource in abundance here? Billions were spent on refineries, yet they didn’t work. So, we had to keep on importing fuel,” he remarked.
He commended the removal of fuel subsidies as a bold move that initially sparked hope. However, he noted that those benefiting from the old system resisted, leading to challenges, including the naira’s rapid devaluation.
### Call for Continued Prayers
Adeboye emphasized the importance of prayer in stabilizing the nation’s economy, urging Nigerians to remain steadfast in their faith and support for positive change.
“God’s intervention has brought us this far, and we must continue to seek His guidance for our nation’s recovery,” he concluded.
