Coach Augustine Eguavoen expressed his enthusiasm for the response from all invited players as the Super Eagles B Team prepares for their 2025 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifying match against Ghana. The team held a training session at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja ahead of the fixture.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), 35 players have been invited for the upcoming match. Eguavoen highlighted the impressive quality within the group and expressed confidence in Nigeria’s chances of qualifying against their rivals.
Despite having two players join late, the coach confirmed that the full squad was now present for training following a second session. Additionally, two players from Plateau United left for club commitments after reaching an agreement with their teams.
Eguavoen stated, “We have a large number of players in camp. I regularly visit league venues, and with the help of my assistant coaches, we identified talented players. The feedback from my assistants aligns with my observations, so most of the players are on the same list.”
He praised the players’ technical abilities, noting, “Although we’ve only had two training sessions, their skills have been impressive. We still have work to do to ensure they gel and perform as a cohesive unit.”
With sufficient time to prepare, Eguavoen is focused on selecting the best players to face Ghana in December. He acknowledged the difficulty of competing against the Ghanaian team but assured that his squad would work diligently to secure a positive outcome.
“At any level, facing the Ghanaians is always challenging. All we need is a bit of luck. We’ll train hard and strategize to ensure we qualify for the next CHAN,” he said.
The first leg of the qualifying match is set for the weekend of December 20 to 22, with the return leg scheduled for the following week. The overall winner will earn a spot at CHAN 2025, co-hosted by Kenya, Morocco, and Tanzania, with the finals taking place from February 1 to 28, 2025.
