Nigeria’s Sports Minister, Senator John Enoh, has praised the Super Eagles for maintaining their composure during a challenging situation in Libya, where they faced harsh treatment. The minister applauded their maturity while receiving the team at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Monday evening.

The Super Eagles endured a 16-hour delay at an abandoned airport in Al Abraq after their flight was diverted from Benghazi, where they were scheduled to play the second leg of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. Following this ordeal, the team eventually landed at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano before heading to Abuja.

Senator Enoh expressed relief at their safe return, stating, “The entire country has been praying for your safe return. Nothing else mattered to us. Your calmness despite the provocations shows the true Nigerian spirit.”

The minister also reassured the team that the Ministry of Sports was in touch with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to address the situation. “We’ve had discussions with CAF about what happened, and they are fully aware of the circumstances,” he added.

CAF has since launched an investigation into the incident, describing it as “disturbing.”
