The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ilorin, Kwara State has inducted a total number of 30 young veterinary doctors into veterinary medicine practice.

In her keynote address, Themed “Thriving in Turbulent Times: Strategies for Veterinary Enterprises to Navigate Economic Challenges and Ensure Sustainable Growth” a Malaysian National and Director, House of Pluto, Lagos, Dr. Puspa Ramloo, charged the young veterinarians to embrace technology, cautioning them to invest only in cost effective technology, leverage on networking opportunities and always be ready to serve.

She said: “Always follow your passion, do what you are passionate about and strive to be the best in it. If you have graduated as a veterinarian and you are not passionate about it, it’s not too late, please move on.

“Always do the right thing, even though the right things may be difficult to do at times. If you don’t partake in corruption, that cankerworm called corruption cannot thrive. Always learn to serve and do good to all manner of people. If you have integrity, when you have the moral, you will never go down.”

Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Egbewole, charged the new inductees to rise to the challenges of how to tackle emerging global public health issues and diseases being transmitted from animals to human beings.

He added: “You have been certified as professional veterinarians, what are you going to do differently to impact positively on the Nigerian society? Let that question agitate your minds ad you strive to do things differently in your profession for netter and maximal results.”

Dean, faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Prof. Mistura Azeez, admonished the new inductees to always discharge their duties with “ldeep sense of empathy and passion.

In her message to the new inductees, the President of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria, AIG Aishatu Abubakar Baju, charged the new inductees to ensure annual renewal of their licenses so as not to be found wanting in their practices, urging them to to be diligent in their callings and professional practices, while always having the fear of God at the back of their minds.

She added: “Veterinary medicine practice provides immense employment opportunities that cut across different federal and state
government agencies, organisations as well as private practice.”
