State Electoral Commission Announces Winner Of Rivers LG Election

    Published on

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has announced the results of the local government elections, with the Action Peoples Party (APP) emerging as the clear winner.

The party secured 22 out of the 23 chairmanship positions in the October 5 poll.

RSIEC Chairman, Justice Adolphus Enebeli, announced the results in Port Harcourt, praising the residents for their patriotic spirit in participating in the voting process. He noted that the polls closed at 3 PM, reflecting a significant voter turnout.

However, the declaration of results for Etche Local Government Area has been put on hold due to the continuous process of tallying the votes. Enebeli stated that the declaration for Etche Local Government Area will be made in conjunction with the declaration for the 319 council seats in the area at a future time.

Despite some challenges, Enebeli characterized the election as free, fair, and credible. The results announcement was attended by members of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Chairpersons of State Independent Electoral Commissions nationwide, and representatives from the Nigeria Bar Association, who served as observers during the election.
