The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on “downtrodden Nigerians” who have endured broken promises, exploitation, and corruption to maintain hope in their country.

In a statement commemorating Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary, NLC President Joe Ajaero acknowledged the resilience and sacrifices of Nigerian workers despite facing significant challenges due to political betrayals.

“We congratulate all Nigerians, especially workers, for their sacrifice and robust spirit in the face of repeated acts of betrayal by the political leadership,” Ajaero stated. He emphasized that citizens should protest lawfully against injustices and the subversion of democratic norms perpetuated by the political elite.

Ajaero warned political leaders against undermining democratic institutions, stating, “It is apparent that the leading political elite are not ready to do the right thing unless compelled.” He urged these leaders to turn a new leaf and recognize the consequences of their actions.

The NLC’s message serves as a reminder to all Nigerians to keep striving for change and justice, even amidst ongoing challenges.
