Former Director of the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC), Chief David Sabo Kente, has raised alarms over the recent devastating floods in Borno State, warning of a potential disaster due to the precarious condition of Alau Dam. He cautioned that the dam is on the brink of collapse and emphasized the urgent need for repairs to avert catastrophic flooding after the rainy season.

In a statement on Tuesday, Kente praised the North East Development Commission for its swift allocation of funds to support flood victims, calling it “extraordinary” and a source of personal pride. However, he expressed deep concern for the future, noting, “Without urgent repairs, the region could face even more catastrophic flooding.”

Kente urged the Federal Government to prioritize the repairs of Alau Dam, stressing that immediate action is crucial to prevent further loss of life and property. He also extended his solidarity to the people of Borno, particularly Governor Babagana Zulum and Vice President Kashim Shettima, praying for divine protection against future disasters.

Having been out of the country during the floods, Kente offered condolences to the families affected and commended the global relief efforts underway, including contributions from UN agencies. He said, “I am heartened by the support from around the world,” highlighting the importance of continued assistance for the affected communities.
