The Federal Government, through the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), has called for the immediate evacuation of residents in flood-prone areas. The warning follows the release of water from Cameroon’s Lagdo Dam, which poses a significant flood risk in parts of Nigeria.

NIHSA’s Director of Operations and Hydrology, Femi Bejide, urged residents to relocate to safer locations, emphasizing that previous dam releases have led to severe flooding and loss of life.

The water release will be controlled, flowing into the already rising Rivers Niger and Benue, raising concerns about heightened flood risks across the country. The agency stressed the importance of acting promptly to avoid casualties.
