The Student Union Government (SUG) of Kwara State Polytechnic has demanded an open investigation from the Nigeria Police Force to unravel the killer of their colleague, Qoyum Abdulyekeen Bamidele.

Bamidele, a ND II student of the Electrical Electronic Engineering Department of the institution was killed by a gunshot allegedly triggered by a police officer on Wednesday 4th of September along Panat Road, behind the old JAMB office in Ilorin, the state capital.

The Student Union, in a statement by its President, Saheed Olalekan Ishola, stated that they were not convinced about the sincerity of the Police authority to bring the perpetrator to justice, despite meeting with the top hierarchy of the State Police Command about three days ago.

The SUG, its President said, has, therefore, given a 24-hour ultimatum to the Nigeria police force to fish out the culprit and bring him to justice, adding that failure to do this, they would be left with no choice than to “heed to the pressure of majority of our members/students, who have called for a peaceful, unceasing and unrelenting protest to fight for justice”.

The demands of the SUG include: “The unveiling of the culprit. Kwarans and indeed the general public deserve to know him.

“The disclosure of the identity of the officer responsible for this heinous crime and accountability from the police force is expected to be implemented without any delay in order to calm the nerves of the Students and reassure the Student community of the altruistic indulgence of the Police hierarchy to serve justice.

“The Investigation must be conducted without any form of secrecy or ambiguity whatsoever. We’re sure that there are several houses in the vicinity of the murder with Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), thus the investigation is streamlined and straightforward.

“Therefore, any attempt to employ delay tactics with the aim of sweeping the case under the carpet will be frontally resisted and all those remotely or directly involved in such satanic and sinister plan will have the Kwara State Polytechnic family to contend with.”
