Armed soldiers reportedly stormed Okuama in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State early Monday morning, allegedly firing at anything in sight. This follows their previous arrest of community leaders.

A local resident, who spoke to Vanguard from hiding in the bush, reported that the military arrived on land via Okoloba community after using drones to monitor Okuama on Sunday. A video sent to Vanguard shows a community youth expressing distress and calling for government intervention.

According to the source, “Soldiers and some youths have overrun our community, shooting indiscriminately. They docked their boats at Okoloba and proceeded on foot. Our temporary shelters are being destroyed.”

The resident added, “Everyone is in chaos; I can’t locate my child. Why are we being treated this way? Why are soldiers collaborating with our adversaries to attack us? Our leaders were arrested weeks ago, and now the soldiers have come to drive us out.”

The source was unable to provide immediate details on the reasons behind the latest invasion.
