Nollywood veteran Wale Ojo is set to direct a new film titled This Is Not a Nollywood Movie, as he announced in an Instagram post on August 17, 2024. Known for his recent award-winning performance in Breath of Life, Ojo shared that this satirical film is an explosive comedy intended to bring joy and laughter to audiences.
In his post, Ojo humorously clarified the film’s title, explaining that it’s meant to be tongue-in-cheek, emphasizing the comedic nature of the project. He stated, “Don’t be fooled by the title, it’s all about laughs cos I believe laughter is an orgasm of the heart and that is the purpose and the aim of this film.”
Ojo’s career began as a child actor in the UK television series Othello, but he rose to prominence in 1995 with his role in The Hard Case. Over the years, he has become a celebrated figure in Nollywood, winning the Nigeria Entertainment Award for Best Actor in 2012 for his leading role in Phone Swap. He also gained recognition for his role in the comedy series Meet the Adebanjos, which earned him a nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy at the 2018 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA).
In addition to acting, Ojo has been a significant force in the Nigerian film industry, founding the New Nigeria Cinema project to improve the quality and global reach of Nigerian films. He is also an advocate for education and the arts, actively participating in workshops and mentoring young talents.
This Is Not a Nollywood Movie will feature a star-studded cast, including Hanks Anuku, Shatta Bandle, Broda Shaggi, and Boma Akpore, promising to be a memorable addition to Ojo’s directorial portfolio.v
