Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, has announced a decline in food inflation, highlighting a significant reduction in the prices of key food items such as yam and tomatoes.

Onanuga shared the news via a post on X (formerly Twitter), where he noted that the cost of these staples has decreased considerably in recent weeks. He pointed to reports indicating that a large basket of tomatoes at Ketu market, which previously sold for an average of ₦150,000, is now available for between ₦55,000 and ₦60,000.

Additionally, Onanuga mentioned that the price of a large basket of habanero peppers, commonly known as “rodo,” has also dropped significantly, now averaging ₦25,000 compared to the ₦55,000 it cost during the height of the price surge.

These developments suggest a positive trend in the country’s food market, offering some relief to consumers who have been grappling with rising food costs.
