The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has denied any association with a purported schedule for local government elections that suggested the elections would take place in October. This clarification came after a news report, which appeared to originate from the commission, titled “Notice of the Year 2024 Local Government Elections In Ogun State,” began circulating online.

The reports quoted OGSIEC Chairman Babatunde Osibodu as announcing that elections for the 20 local governments and 236 wards in the state would be held on October 26, 2024. However, in a statement issued on Tuesday, the state electoral commission clarified that no definitive date has been set for these elections. They characterized the circulating information as false and urged the public to disregard it.

The commission assured the public that they would be properly informed about the election schedule once it is decided. Additionally, the statement emphasized the state government’s recognition of the importance of local governments as a vital tier of government and the necessity of facilitating elections for democratically elected representatives under Governor Dapo Abiodun’s leadership.
