Transparency group alerts Tinubu on alleged plot to extend NIS CG retirement date

    Published on

A Transparency group, the Movement for Transparency and Accountability (MTA) has raised the alarm over an alleged plot to extend the retirement date of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nana Nandap

According to the group, the official Public Service Rules stipulates that her retirement is due on October 10, 2024 after serving for 35 years, but said there are plans by some beneficiaries of her largesse to extend her tenure for selfish benefits.

The MTA, in a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its Publicity Secretary, Comrade Famous Daniel, argued that despite the fact that the Comptroller-General of the NIS, was instrumental to the retirement of many seasoned, experienced and more productive officers before her ascension to office, “Now,it is her turn to leave, the same treatment meted on others should apply to her”

They also recalled that upon resumption of office, some 80 Officers of NIS had their posting to foreign missions halted and they threatened to drag the Comptroller-General to court over alleged violation of administrative procedure and their fundamental rights.

The group claimed that an opinion sampling conducted among Personnel from State Commands and the Headquarters of the service indicated that her tenure may have been the worst off of all the Comptroller Generals particularly for not adding value more than four months after her appointment.

The group also claimed that they are ready to approach the National Industrial Court on behalf of the aggrieved personnel of the NIS to ensure the retirement of CG Nandap by 10/10/2024 her due retirement date,” Or else we are ready to embarrass her at the National Industrial Court, she should submit her Asset Declaration Immediately, before she is arrested for default.”to document the houses she has in Abuja and Plateau.

They also alleged that despite the growing disenchantment among rank and files of the NIS, Nandap has cashed on the special relationship between her and the Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji Ojo to upturn policies within the NIS.

The group recalled that Ojo is yet to fix the scandal that rocked his office involving Betta Edu, the sacked Minister of Humanitarian.

“We want to call on President Tinubu not to allow some investigations to be swept under the carpet under his administration.Mr President should know that Nigerians are not sleeping over the need to investigate the case. He has not reported to ICPC neither to EFCC our watchdogs are monitoring this abuse of power”

Attempts to get across to the head of Media and Communications spokesperson of the NIS failed but a Senior Personnel, who pleaded anonymity said despite the fact that the group’s allegations and claims are not confirmed,” the members of the group and the public should wait till the October retirement date as alleged”

“These allegations and other claims seems to be a distraction that is targeted to stampede the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nana Nandap out into retirement. She has done her bit and President Tinubu knows what to do in terms of succession as provided in the public service rules”
