The electorates in Kwara State have been urged to reject the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and vote massively for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming Local Government polls in the State.

The admonition was given by a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly and a renowned
Constitutional Law expert, Prof. Ali Ahmad, during a media chat with journalists in Ilorin, the State capital.

Prof. Ahmad lamented the failure of the ruling APC government in the State to adhere to local government autonomy over the past five years, despite the constitutional provision for such autonomy.

He said: “I appeal that the people of Kwara should use the upcoming election to denounce this failure and vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which I believe is the only party that can guarantee accountability and people-oriented administration.

“My findings indicate that the last general election was massively rigged to favour the ruling party. It is, however, good to note that the people of Kwara have turned against the APC due to its failure to deliver on its promises.”

The former Speaker expressed confidence in the PDP’s chances in the forthcoming local government polls, citing the party’s commitment to accountability and transparency.

Prof. Ahmad, who has been endorsed as the consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election by his kinsmen in the Ilorin South Senatorial District, highlighted the alleged misappropriation of millions of Naira by unelected Local Government administrators in Ilorin South as an example of the APC’s failure.

Urging the people of the State to rise up and demand accountability from their leaders, the Professor noted that the PDP is the only party that can guarantee accountability and people-oriented administration,
adding that Kwarans who want local government autonomy to become a reality should vote for the PDP without hesitation.

Through his Foundation, Prof. Ahmad has been providing support to the needy, widows, and orphans, especially the youth entrepreneurs across the state, regardless of political affiliation, noting that the Ali Ahmad Foundation has been in existence for decades and has touched many lives through its interventions, even as he promised to continue to give back to the society in his bid to contribute his quota as a private citizen.

The Sallah Support initiative and other interventions lineup for the 2024 Eid-ul-Adha by the former lawmaker were targeted at PDP stakeholders, leaders, and members across the State.

He, therefore, expressed confidence that the PDP would emerge victorious in the forthcoming local government polls, noting that the party has gained the trust of the people
