The House of Representatives has raised concerns about the rising incidents of killings and kidnappings in the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam federal constituency of Plateau State. In response, the lawmakers have called upon the Nigerian military, police, and other security agencies to address these troubling developments.
During a plenary session on Wednesday, Representative Yusuf Adamu Gagdi highlighted the escalating insecurity in his constituency through a motion. Gagdi expressed his distress over numerous documented cases of deliberate threats, kidnappings, and assaults targeting the residents of his constituency.
The lawmaker emphasized that the Kanam forest has become a sanctuary for bandits and Boko Haram terrorists due to an influx of individuals from other states.
In response, the House urged the Chief of Defence Staff to establish two military bases in Kanam, specifically in the Gun-Gagdi and Garga areas. Additionally, the House called upon Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to deploy more personnel to the affected regions of Gun-Gagdi, Garga, Pankshin, and Kanke.
Reports by Naija News have documented a series of attacks by unknown gunmen in Plateau State. Recently, Pastor Dauda Dalyop, a cleric with the Assemblies of God Church in Keall, was killed by unknown gunmen in a fresh attack in the state. The incident, which occurred in the village of Kimakpa in the Kwall District of Bassa Local Government Area, resulted in the deaths of at least five individuals.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA), Sam Jugo, confirmed the incident in a statement to reporters on Wednesday. He detailed that the attack took place at around midnight on June 2, 2024, with criminal invaders killing five residents in cold blood at Kimakpa. Among the victims were Pastor Dauda Dalyop, Mrs. Chummy Dauda, 57; Chwe Ajuhs, 26; Joshua Kusa, 45; and Rikwe Doro, 43.
