    N/Delta River Basin Devt Authority pledges to support Int’l Human Rights Group

    Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (NDRBDA) says the agency will promote and achieve the shared goals of the International Human Rights Protection Service, (IHRPS).

    Amgbare stated this when the forum paid him a courtesy visit at his office in Port Harcourt described the visit as timely.

    He commended the forum for promoting Human Rights in the region where International oil companies’ activities adversely affects some Oil producing communities .

    The NDRBDA helmsman also provided an overview of the Authority’s mission, vision, and ongoing projects aimed at the sustainable development of the Niger Delta.

    “The courtesy call is empathic and generous. I commend your forum for promoting human rights and sustainable development in the Niger Delta region especially as some of these communities have been bedevilled by the nonchalant dispositions of International Oil Companies”, he said.

    Earlier in his presentation, Amb. Dr. Charles Onimi, leader of the delegation who is also the Special envoy to West African International Human Rights Protection Service, highlighted the organization’s objectives, ongoing human rights initiatives, and its commitment to supporting sustainable development efforts.

    Onimi who emphasised the importance of protecting human rights in development projects and ensuring that local communities benefit from such initiatives.

    He urged the NDRBDA to implement joint training programs and workshops to raise awareness about human rights among NDBDA staff and local communities and establishing frameworks for monitoring and evaluating the impact of NDBDA’s projects on local communities from a human rights perspective, especially from both local and international companies.

    He said the visit was aimed at discussing potential areas of collaboration, enhance mutual understanding, and explore initiatives to promote human rights and sustainable development in the Niger Delta region.

    The special Envoy also highlighted the organization’s objectives, ongoing human rights initiatives, and its commitment to supporting sustainable development efforts.
