William Troost-Ekong, captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the 2023 AFCON player of the tournament, has secured the Greek Super League title with PAOK Salonica. This marks the fourth league title in PAOK’s history.

PAOK clinched the championship with a 2-1 victory over Aris on Sunday, May 19. Despite Troost-Ekong making only 10 appearances this season, his contribution to the team has been significant. PAOK ended the season with 80 points from 36 matches, finishing two points ahead of their closest rivals, AEK Athens.

In the decisive match, Brandon Thomas opened the scoring for PAOK at the hour mark. Aris equalized shortly after through Loren, but Taison sealed the win for PAOK two minutes later.

Troost-Ekong was absent from the matchday squad as he had just returned to full training following surgery after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in February. Manager Razvan Lucescu opted not to risk his newly recovered captain in the final game of the season.
