Former Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing fundamental disparities between his personal convictions and the current direction of the party.

In a formal letter addressed to the chairman of his constituency, Mbutu Ward in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, Ihedioha expressed his unwavering commitment to democracy and good governance in Nigeria, despite his decision to part ways with the party.

Having been a member of the PDP since its inception in 1998, Ihedioha acknowledged his contributions to the party’s growth and development, highlighting its historical dedication to internal reforms and credible leadership.

However, Ihedioha lamented recent developments within the party, stating concerns over its deviation from core principles, including the failure to implement internal reforms, adhere to its own regulations, and effectively oppose the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In his resignation letter, Ihedioha expressed regret over the necessity of his decision, but affirmed its correctness in light of his principles. He pledged to remain available to contribute towards the enhancement of democracy and good governance in Nigeria, despite his departure from the PDP.
