The sentencing of popular cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, has been postponed to April 9, 2024, by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos. This decision came after Bobrisky pleaded guilty to four counts of abusing the Naira and money laundering, with the court ordering his remand in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) until the judgment date.

Bobrisky, who initially faced six charges, admitted to the offenses during the court proceedings. However, two charges were dropped following discussions between the involved parties. Despite identifying as a social media influencer with a substantial following, Bobrisky claimed ignorance of the law prohibiting Naira abuse, a defense dismissed by Justice Awogboro, who stressed that ignorance does not exempt one from legal consequences.

Expressing remorse for his actions, Bobrisky pleaded for leniency, emphasizing his desire to educate his followers about the importance of adhering to the law. The arrest of Bobrisky by EFCC personnel was initially reported on Wednesday, with the agency clarifying that it was related to allegations of mutilating Naira notes rather than Bobrisky’s lifestyle as a cross-dresser.

The charges against Bobrisky included instances of allegedly tampering with Naira notes by spraying them at various social events. Additionally, the EFCC accused Bobrisky of failing to submit declarations of activities related to his trading company, Bob Express, resulting in charges of money laundering.

With the sentencing postponed, Bobrisky awaits the final decision of the court on April 9, 2024, regarding the charges brought against him by the EFCC
