During a recent caucus meeting of the Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu reassured party members of his unwavering commitment to the party and its rebuilding process. Ikpeazu made it clear that despite the exit of some of his former aides to other political parties, he has no plans to leave the PDP and intends to stay with others to rebuild it.

The caucus meeting, held at the new party secretariat in Umuahia, saw a significant turnout of party faithful. In his address, Ikpeazu emphasized the importance of unity among party members to ensure a swift return to winning ways. He urged members to take individual responsibility for the party’s performance in the 2023 elections, acknowledging that the party is currently undergoing a self-cleansing process.

While acknowledging that some may choose to leave the party, Ikpeazu stressed the value of loyalty and sacrifice, urging those who have benefited from the party in the past to contribute to its repositioning. He reiterated his commitment to the PDP and vowed to fulfill his responsibilities to the party’s rebuilding process.

The state PDP Chairman, Rt Hon Asiforo Okere, expressed gratitude to members who have remained steadfast in their support for the party, especially after the 2023 elections. He highlighted the party’s majority status in the state House of Assembly and announced measures taken by the National Working Committee to extend the tenures of elected ward executives and establish committees for Peace and Reconciliation, Way Forward, and Finance.

Senator Austin Akobundu, representing Abia Central, emphasized the resilience of the PDP in the state, labeling it as a movement that cannot be extinguished. Elder statesman Chief Onyema Ugochukwu echoed calls for unity, emphasizing the need to move past the blame game and focus on repositioning the party for the future. He underscored the importance of creating opportunities for young members to contribute to the party’s leadership.

In summary, Ikpeazu’s reaffirmation of his loyalty to the PDP and his call for unity and sacrifice among party members reflect a collective determination to rebuild and strengthen the party’s position in Abia State.
