The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has leveled accusations against Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, a federal lawmaker representing Ideato North/South constituency in Imo State, for purportedly interfering in Rivers State politics.

Chief Tony Okocha, Chairman of the Rivers APC Caretaker Committee, asserted during a media briefing in Port Harcourt that Ugochinyere is a “meddlesome interloper” who spreads falsehoods and comments on matters beyond his knowledge.

Ugochinyere, a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), recently criticized the Rivers State House of Assembly for overriding Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara’s veto on the Local Government Amendment Bill. He labeled the lawmakers’ action as potentially chaotic and indicative of legislative rascality.

In response, Okocha rebuked Ugochinyere for his allegations against the Rivers State assembly and warned him against further meddling in the state’s affairs, threatening legal action if he persists.

Highlighting Ugochinyere’s lack of jurisdiction over Rivers State, Okocha emphasized that Ugochinyere represents constituents in Imo State and questioned his authority to speak on matters concerning Rivers State.

Okocha also dismissed Ugochinyere’s claims as baseless and driven by personal interests, insinuating ties between Ugochinyere and individuals in Rivers State’s governance.

Furthermore, Okocha clarified that the bills overridden by the House of Assembly were subject to due process, with communication between the assembly and the governor preceding the decision to bypass the governor’s veto.

In conclusion, Okocha reaffirmed the APC’s stance against Ugochinyere’s interference and asserted the legitimacy of the assembly’s actions in accordance with constitutional provisions.
