Italian journalist Giuseppe di Stefano has voiced dissatisfaction with Samuel Chukwueze’s performance since joining AC Milan, as reported by Soccernet.ng.
Chukwueze made the move from Spanish La Liga side Villarreal last season after a six-year stint with the club. AC Milan secured his services for €20 million, with high expectations following his impressive record of 13 goals and ten assists in his final season at Villarreal.
However, Chukwueze has struggled to meet these expectations, performing below par. Despite being in competition with Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic for the right-wing position, Chukwueze has failed to convince coach Stefano Pioli. This season, he has managed only two goals and one assist in 21 appearances across all competitions.
Italian football expert Di Stefano expressed disappointment with Chukwueze’s performances, noting that the Nigerian attacker has not showcased the level he displayed at Villarreal.
“Piolu doesn’t have great alternatives as a right-winger because Chukwueze has been the disappointment of the season. He has only started in ten games and has had limited minutes, failing to demonstrate the qualities he exhibited at Villarreal,” Di Stefano stated per Pianetamilan.
While Chukwueze may receive some leniency due to his recent move to a new country, he needs to improve his performances swiftly. Failure to do so may prompt AC Milan to seek a replacement for him in the upcoming season.
