Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has advocated for a constitutional amendment to delay the swearing-in of a newly-elected President until all election petitions have been resolved by the court. Ologunagba highlighted that the distraction caused by election petitions during the first seven months of President Bola Tinubu’s administration impeded effective governance, contributing to the current economic challenges faced by the nation.

In an interview, Ologunagba emphasized the urgent need for constitutional reforms, particularly regarding electoral laws. He proposed that elected officials should only assume office after the conclusion of all legal disputes, aiming to prevent prolonged litigations that hinder governmental functions.

Addressing the economic crisis and rising insecurity in the country, Ologunagba underscored the importance of restructuring. He argued that restructuring would address disparities and injustices, citing the unequal distribution of local governments among states as an example. According to him, restructuring would foster competence and inclusivity, thereby mitigating national challenges.

Ologunagba urged for a serious consideration of restructuring, emphasizing its significance in promoting national unity and addressing diverse societal concerns. He highlighted the PDP’s longstanding advocacy for restructuring and emphasized the need for concrete steps towards its implementation to tackle Nigeria’s multifaceted challenges effectively.
