The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reported on Wednesday that the court-ordered rerun election in the Enugu South 1 State Constituency was marred by the disruption caused by hoodlums.

In a statement posted on its official communication channels Wednesday afternoon, INEC disclosed that while election materials were destroyed, fortunately, there were no casualties.

The statement read, “A report from our Enugu State office indicates that hoodlums have disrupted the court-ordered rerun election in the Enugu South 1 State Constituency. Although no casualties were reported, significant damage was done to election materials, and voters were prevented from casting their votes.”

It further mentioned that INEC officials were safely evacuated with the assistance of security agencies.

“In contrast,” the statement continued, “the supplementary election in the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency of Taraba State is proceeding peacefully across three Local Government areas.”
