Renowned Super Falcons player, Asisat Oshoala, is reportedly parting ways with the reigning Spanish champions, Barcelona, as she looks to embark on a new chapter in her illustrious career. The talented forward joined Barcelona in January 2019 on loan from the Chinese club Dalian Quanjian and was later secured on a permanent deal in June of the same year.

Oshoala’s time with Barcelona has been marked by remarkable success, contributing significantly to the team’s four Primera División titles, three Supercopa de España Femenina honors, and three Copa de la Reina titles. Her historic achievement as the first African to win the UEFA Women’s Champions League with Barcelona in 2021, followed by a repeat success in 2023, further solidified her legacy.

However, her journey with Barcelona is coming to an end, with her contract set to expire in June. Recent squad exclusions, including matches against Real Betis and SL Benfica, indicate the impending conclusion of her tenure with the club.

According to reports from Nigeria Football, Oshoala has been spotted in the United States, fueling speculation about her potential move to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) team, Bay FC. The anticipated transfer may involve a fee of around €150,000 ($162,000). An official announcement is expected soon, with Oshoala reportedly agreeing to a contract extending through 2026, including a 2027 option.

Bay FC, set to debut in the NWSL’s 2024 season, will play their home games at PayPal Park in San Jose, California. Their inaugural NWSL campaign kicks off against Angel City on March 17.

In her final season with Barcelona, Oshoala made 14 appearances, starting in only three games but impressively scoring eight goals. Over her five-year stint with the Spanish giants, the former Arsenal star left an indelible mark, scoring 107 goals in 149 appearances.
