The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has expressed concern about the increasing instances of bribery and self-gratification among EFCC investigators. In a speech delivered at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, Olukoyede openly criticized the negative public perception of EFCC investigators and pledged to take decisive action to address the issue.

Emphasizing the importance of discipline, integrity, and responsibility in the agency’s operations, Olukoyede warned investigators against accepting bribes, making it clear that such behavior would not be tolerated under his leadership. He acknowledged the adverse public opinions about the conduct of some EFCC investigators and stressed the need to curb the quest for gratification, bribes, and compromises.

The Chairman outlined ongoing efforts to enhance the welfare of EFCC employees and announced the directive given to the Department of Internal Affairs to intensify its monitoring of all staff engagements. Olukoyede affirmed his commitment to maintaining the Commission’s image and warned that strict measures would be taken against any staff engaging in corrupt practices.

While not delving into specifics, he hinted at positive developments in the new year for EFCC staff and urged them to uphold the principles of discipline and integrity. Olukoyede concluded by emphasizing the significance of accountability, stating that the Commission’s image was too crucial to be jeopardized by any corrupt officer.
