Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has expressed his appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his adept defense of Nigeria’s democracy in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s ruling on the state’s gubernatorial election. Governor Ganduje praised President Tinubu for resisting considerable public pressure and standing firm to uphold the people’s mandate amidst an overwhelming crowd that welcomed him in Kano.
The incumbent governor, who is also the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), acknowledged that the judiciary’s reputation was further strengthened by the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn his dismissal by the tribunal and Court of Appeal. Governor Ganduje asserted that there were individuals with intentions to seize the hard-earned mandate of the Kano people, and he commended the Justices of the Supreme Court (JSCs) for ensuring justice in their verdict, preventing the state from potential “unforeseen circumstances.”
“We thank the justices for the judgment because if not for the fair judgment they delivered, we would not have known what would have happened. The verdict has redeemed their image,” stated Governor Ganduje.
He highlighted the determination of certain individuals to wrestle or misappropriate the mandate, citing their perception that the President, Vice President, and others were affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC). Despite this, Governor Ganduje noted that the President refrained from interference, earning the gratitude of the people of Kano for preserving democracy in the state.
Expressing his gratitude for the overwhelming support from the people, Governor Ganduje assured them that his administration would fulfill its promises in the areas of education, health, empowerment, and more. He pledged to deliver on the dividends of democracy and emphasized that the doors of his government are open to the citizens.
