Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan is in mourning following the passing of his elder sister, Madam Obebhatein Jonathan. She breathed her last on Thursday, January 11, at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, after a brief illness. Madam Obebhatein Jonathan was 70 years old.
In a statement issued by Mr. Ikechukwu Eze, the Special Adviser on Media to Jonathan, it was revealed that the deceased, affectionately known as Amissi, was a retired teacher, businesswoman, and a devoted mother and grandmother. She dedicated her life to serving God and humanity.
Described as a devout Christian, virtuous woman, and role model both within and outside her community, Madam Obebhatein’s burial has been scheduled for Tuesday, February 16, 2024. The family will announce the details of the funeral rites.
Madam Obebhatein is survived by three children, siblings (including former President Goodluck Jonathan), and her mother, Mama Eunice Afeni-Jonathan. The loss of a family member is undoubtedly a difficult moment for the Jonathan family, and condolences are pouring in from well-wishers and sympathizers.
