Responding to increasing security concerns along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has issued orders for additional personnel deployment. Recent reports highlighted a kidnapping incident on the highway, with numerous commuters allegedly abducted by unidentified gunmen.

In a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in Abuja on Thursday, the IGP emphasized the necessity of bolstering safety and security in the area. The deployment, according to the statement, aims to leverage advanced technology and strategic resources to enhance the overall security infrastructure along the route.

Mr. Egbetokun specifically tasked the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of Operations, Mr. Ede Ekpeji, with overseeing the personnel assigned to operations on the route. The proactive approach seeks to reassure citizens and travelers of their safety, acting as a deterrent to criminal elements due to the increased presence of security forces on the road.

Highlighting the importance of collaboration among security agencies and local communities, the IGP urged the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and cooperate with security personnel. Emphasizing the collective effort required for maintaining security and the well-being of residents and travelers on the route, Mr. Egbetokun positioned these measures as part of the police’s commitment to ensuring a secure and peaceful environment.
