CUPP Raises Concerns Over Deeper Palliatives Scam Involving Betta Edu

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has asserted that the alleged palliatives money scam associated with Betta Edu goes beyond the information presented to Nigerians. In a statement released on Tuesday, the group cautioned against any attempt to downplay the issue based on political considerations.

While expressing approval for the suspension and investigation of the Humanitarian Affairs Minister, CUPP urged President Bola Tinubu to extend the inquiry to identify any individuals involved in looting the treasury.

CUPP’s National Secretary, Peter Ameh, emphasized that it is the group’s belief that the suspended Minister could not have executed the alleged heist without encouragement from potentially influential members within the present government.

The statement highlighted the broader concerns surrounding the palliatives issue and the Humanitarian Affairs ministry, citing ongoing probes into the actions of the former minister, Sadia Umar, for embezzling close to forty billion naira. The current minister, Betta Edu, is implicated in the transfer of five hundred and eight-five million naira to a private bank account.

CUPP emphasized its preference for empowering people to be self-sustaining rather than providing immediate relief. The group urged the federal government to reconsider the role and mandate of the ministry, suggesting a redirection of funds towards initiatives like cottage industries or farm settlements, which could stimulate employment and economic growth.

In conclusion, CUPP called on the government to address the challenges surrounding the Humanitarian Affairs ministry to prevent further embarrassment to the nation.
