Osun APC Seeks Court Intervention to Restrict Aregbesola’s Faction within Party

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has taken legal action, represented by lawyers Ayodele Kusamotu, Yemi Akingbade, R. Oloyede, and B. Nwayen, requesting the court to ban the leadership of a political group called “Omoluabi Progressives” within the party, led by the former governor, Rauf Aregbesola.

The party contends that Aregbesola lacks the authority to validly lead suspended members and other individuals associated with them in launching the said political group within the APC. The use of the party’s logo, symbol, and slogan during the group’s launch is alleged to have violated both the Nigerian Constitution and the party’s constitution.

The APC asserts that Aregbesola, being a former governor, does not possess the constitutional power to initiate a separate group within the party. Consequently, the party is seeking a court order to proscribe and prohibit the existence of this faction within the APC in Osun State.

The suit, dated January 4, 2024, includes Aregbesola and three others as defendants: the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Rasheed Afolabi, and ‘Lani Baderinwa, a loyalist of Aregbesola and former Commissioner for Information in the state.
